(Courtesy photo) GREENVILLE, Ky. – Supply Sergeants from across Kentucky took part in the states newest course, March 26-28 at Wendell H. Ford Regional Training Center.  The course imparts important information for those Soldiers who are stating their Active Guard Reserve supply sergeant tour. The Supply Sergeant 101 Course’s mission is to provide new supply sergeants with key information, processes, and procedures to make them successful during the opening months of their position. The commander’s intent for the course is that new supply sergeants who don’t have any experience come and get the basics of running the units supply shop without the minutia of the overall issues that may fall to that position. The instructors cover a list of things the supply sergeants must know to do their job. “We pulled out things that a new supply sergeant would need to know in their first thirty days," said Capt. Carson Gregory, the officer in charge who coordinated the whole course. Senior supply officers and NCO’s were used as instructors for the three-day long course. “Several senior supply, maintenance, and state logistics personnel were present and gave useful advise and mentorship that the attendees can take with them to be more successful in their first year than their predecessors,” said 1st Sgt. Matthew Vincent, Senior Supply Non-commissioned Officer with the 75th Troop Command. Helping the new supply sergeants find success in their role helps the National Guard run better and allows each unit to be more equipped and prepared for deployment when they are called on. “When I arrived I was expecting to be the only one there without any idea what was going on, but I was pleased to find that was not the case,” said Philip Kreps, a satellite communications specialist who was put on orders to backfill his units supply sergeant position with the 149th Signal Company. “More importantly though was the interaction with others in the supply world, I was able to put faces to names with those who I am sure I will be working with over the next several months.” Everyone involved saw this as a positive experience for those who were in attendance and those that worked to put it together. “The course went even better than anticipated,” said Vincent. “New hires and newer Supply NCOs that attended were introduced to all operating systems they would need to perform their daily duties.” Unit leadership said they would like to see this class offered on a quarterly basis. For Soldiers who need to attend to get into a class, information for future classes will be published through the logistics section as well as, "The Logistician" newsletter, which contains valuable supply information and will also include future dates as they become available.
