Kentucky Guard marathon team competes in Nebraska

Varinka Barbini/75th Troop Command FRANKFORT, Ky.(July 7, 2010)--The Kentucky National Guard Marathon Team traveled to Lincoln, Neb., during the month of May to compete in the annual National Guard Bureau Marathon Trials and Recruiting & Retention Workshop where they excelled on multiple levels.  More than 250 Guard members competed, representing nearly every state and U.S. territory. This year’s Kentucky National Guard team was made up of Staff Sgt. Steven Meyer, Chief Warrant Officer Allen Davis, Sgt. Micheal Embury, and Capt. Varinka Barbini. Barbini was the sole member to make the National Guard Elite Marathon Team.  She recently returned from the Mayor's Marathon in Anchorage, Alaska, finishing 3rd place for females in the 1/2 Marathon. The Kentucky National Guard Marathon team is not limited to the 26.2 marathon distance.  The team welcomes those that would like to participate in all distances.  To sign up and be part of their  email list please contact the KY Marathon Coordinator, Capt.
