Frankfort, Ky. (October 16, 2010) -- Lt. Col. Brent Wilkins recently took command of the Kentucky Army National Guard's 751st Troop Command in ceremonies conducted at the Boone National Guard Center. Wilkins follows Lt. Col. Tim Barrett, who is taking an assignment at the Wendell H. Ford Regional Training Center in Muhlenberg County.
Wilkins, a member of the Kentucky Guard for 24 years, is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He holds a full-time position as the deputy director, J-4 and is a native of Greenville and a resident of Frankfort. He has a 13-year old son, Nick.
Wilkins comes from a family with a strong military background. His father, sister, brother and sister-in-law are all members of the Kentucky Army National Guard.
Wilkins credited his father, retired Chief Warrant Officer 5 Joe Wilkins, with giving him some sound advice: "My father told me a long time ago that without our fellow Soldiers, we wouldn't be here and we wouldn’t be able to do the things we do."
Based in Fort Knox, the 751st Troop Command is comprised of more than 400 Soldiers. Units subordinate to the 751st are the 1163rd Medical Command (Shelbyville), 307th Maintenance Co. (Central City, Russellville and Henderson), 202nd Army Band (Frankfort), and the 2113th Transportation Co. (Paducah).
