24-hour Update - The Kentucky National Guard in Haiti

BARAHONA, Dominican Republic -- Lt. Col. Kirk Hilbrecht, Director of Public Affairs for the Kentucky National Guard, begins a series of daily updates on the work of the Kentucky National Guard in support of Operation Unified Response in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. The Kentucky Air National Guard's 123rd Contingency Response Group lands in Barahona, Dominican Republic and sets up an "air hub" and begins operations sending supplies to earthquake-ravaged Haiti. Elements of the 123rd Contingency Response Group from Louisville Kentucky, flew by organic C-130 to Barahona, Dominican Republic Friday. The team immediately began unloading equipment and personnel required to set up an airbase for continued operations in country. Friday evening, the 123rd CRG offloaded seven C-130s carrying vital humanitarian relief supplies for victims of the devastating earthquake in Haiti. Saturday morning, Lt. Col. David Mounkes, 123rd global mobility squadron commander, briefed the first shift regarding the anticipated air flow for the day. Thirty minutes later,  the 123rd CRG was offloading a C-130 Hercules aircraft from the Rhode Island Air National Guard. These humanitarian aid supplies will be loaded onto six flat bed trucks and embark upon a 4 hour trek into Port a Prince by nightfall. -30- NOTE:  All photos by TSgt.
