LAGHMAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan (Feb. 1, 2010) - Veterinarians of the Kentucky National Guard's AgriBusiness Development Team brought together veterinary students from across Afghanistan to teach hands-on skills for treating animals. According to the United National, livestock is the primary source of both food and income in rural Afghanistan, so it is vitally important to have veterinarians to keep these animals healthy. "We are mostly poor families," said Fahran, an Afghan veterinary student, "we don't have much money to take our animals far away to be treated. So it's important that the local vets know what to do."
