FRANKFORT, Ky.—Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear and wife Jane, joined Kentucky Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Edward W. Tonini and wife Carol, to visit with families and troops from the Kentucky National Guard as part of an annual Christmas tradition Dec 1.

Beshear and Tonini spent the morning at a Christmas breakfast with members of the 138th Fires Brigade and their Families in Lexington, Ky. Soldiers currently stationed in the Horn of Africa joined the festivities via a Skype connection broadcast into the unit's armory. [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="291"]IMG_2144 Gov. Kirk Hilbrecht, Kentucky National Guard Public Affairs) The Governor and Adjutant General also traveled to Frankfort, Ky., to attend a Christmas luncheon at Capital Plaza with Soldiers and family members of the Joint Forces Headquarters. Beshear and Tonini took time to speak to the Soldiers and families of both units to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation for their continued service to the Commonwealth of Kentucky. “Every year I stand here as your Commander and Chief and say this and every year I mean it more; thank you for what you do for this country and for this great Commonwealth ,” Beshear said.  “From the bottom of mine and Jane’s heart , we want to wish you and your families a joyous holiday,” he said. Family members of Kentucky National Guard's Joint Forces Headquarters stand with Santa Claus at a Christmas luncheon at Capital Plaza in Frankfort, Ky., Dec 1. (photo by Capt. Andrea Hahn, Kentucky National Guard public affairs) Children in attendance participated in the festivities by enjoying a surprise visit from Santa Claus himself and were  presented gifts and awarded door prizes on behalf of the Kentucky National Guard.
