(KENTUCKY) - Kentucky National Guard G9 Family Programs held two volunteer appreciation luncheons. One was in Bowling Green on Aug. 24 and the other in Frankfort on Sept.14. Both events were held to recognize the contributions volunteers make and the time they give. Some fun team-building, a nice meal and fellowship with other volunteers within the area were the goals of the day. The volunteers were given certificates and items of appreciation for their countless hours of time and commitment to the units and family members.
“The
events were a great success and we look forward to having events like this next
year in an effort to retain our volunteers,” said Donna Bentley, Kentucky
Senior Family Readiness Support Assistant.
“We want to continue showing them they are important to our Family
Readiness Program and their units.”
State Family Program Volunteer Awards were presented to two volunteers. Kentucky Family Program Awards are in four categories with nominations from unit commanders and the Family Readiness Groups (FRG). Sgt. Danielle O’Brien received an award for Outstanding Military Unit Point of Contact. It was presented to her during unit drill weekend. The Outstanding Family Readiness and Support Award was presented to Krista Tudor by Col. Scott Thomas, G9 Director. Both awards were presented to each recipient for their support for the unit family day and Christmas dinner.
SGT
O’Brien provided community support full of activities, decorations, toys and
door prizes and added a display of the unit activities throughout the year.
Krista Tudor planned family day with swimming and a picnic at BGAD, coordinated pizza and refreshments, flyers and communication to the families for invites to attend and participate in the return of a unit from Ft. Polk La.
“Family
means so much to the military. G9 Family
Programs had a luncheon, with games and getting to know one another, then they
presented the volunteers that assist our families with certificates,” said Amy
Parker AGR and spouse. “I’m so lucky to
work with the Kentucky National Guard and see that they appreciate the
volunteer work our Family Readiness Groups (FRG) put in. Proud that my husband
who retired from the Army has been able to continue to serve.”
Recognition for 12 years of volunteer service was also presented during the luncheons to Karen Dulaney for Aviation Units and Michele Brewer for her time with KYMED COM.
