(Dec. 21, 2010) -- In my life I have done, in my own opinion, a great many things that have made me feel good inside and have given me a feeling of accomplishment.  I played football in high school, graduated college and even taught English overseas in China for a couple of years.  While these were all good experiences, I was always left wanting something more.  I knew that there had to be an adventure to be had somewhere that would not only offer a challenge, but would give me that feeling of fulfillment that I had been searching for. Believe it or not, I had always toyed with the idea of joining the military since I was 17.  Then, I talked to a family member who was in the National Guard, and he convinced me to go see a recruiter to find out what the Guard was all about.  The next thing I knew I was raising my right hand and pledging to protect the United States.  Since joining the National Guard I have found that sense of fulfillment that I was seeking out for years before.  My job in the Guard offers the opportunity to do things that I have only seen on TV and in movies.  That, however, isn’t even the best part.  The best part is knowing that in whatever endeavor I set out on, I’m not alone.  I’m part of something bigger than myself and it feels amazing!
