Frankfort, Ky (Dec 13, 2011)--Governor Steve Beshear appointed Maj. Gen. Edward Tonini as the Kentucky's Adjutant General during a private swearing-in ceremony in Frankfort's Capitol rotunda at midnight, Monday. This is Tonini's second appointment as the Commanding General of the Kentucky National Guard. Tonini is the Commonwealth's 51st Adjutant.
In accordance with KRS 036.020 (Adjutant General - Appointment), "The Governor, immediately on his induction into office, shall appoint the adjutant general who shall have served honorably, or be serving, as a commissioned officer of the Armed Forces of the United States."
This equated to the Tonini's appointment order being signed directly after Beshear is sworn in at midnight.
