Kentucky Guard hosts state legislators

By Sgt. 1st Class Benjamin Crane, Kentucky National Guard Public Affairs

The Kentucky National Guard hosted six state legislators at the Army Aviation Support Facility on Boone National Guard Center in Frankfort, March 9.

The event gave senior leaders, including U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Haldane Lamberton, Kentucky’s adjutant general, an opportunity to brief lawmakers on the Guard’s operational readiness. The discussion covered everything from domestic disaster response and overseas deployments to strategic partnerships, initiatives, and the importance of maintaining a force ready to respond at a moment’s notice.

Following the briefing, the legislators were given an opportunity to see the Guard’s aviation capabilities firsthand.

Aircrews introduced the group to the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter and explained its role in a wide range of missions, including disaster response, troop movement, medical evacuation and search-and-rescue operations. The six representatives then boarded the aircraft for a flight over central Kentucky.

The visit provided lawmakers with more than just a flight – it offered a clear, tangible understanding of the Guard’s readiness and reinforced a crucial partnership that allows them to continue serving the commonwealth and the nation.
