BOWLING GREEN, Ky. –
The 1792nd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion held a change of command ceremony at Jody Richards Elementary School, Aug. 23.
During the ceremony, outgoing commander Lt. Col. Jennifer Watson relinquished command to incoming commander Maj. Anthony Moore. The passing of the battalion colors symbolized the transfer of authority and responsibility for the unit's mission and Soldiers.
U.S. Army Col. Steven Engels, commander of the 75th Troop Command, addressed the audience, highlighting the dedication of the battalion's leaders and the critical role the sustainment unit plays in Kentucky and beyond.
Watson reflected on two demanding and rewarding years leading the battalion through training, missions, and readiness exercises.
"Writing this speech was a daunting and emotional task, forcing me to reflect on two remarkable years leading seven distinct units, each performing their own unique mission," Watson said. "I am honored and profoundly humbled to have served as your battalion commander, and there will never be another assignment I will hold more dear to my heart."
During Watson's tenure, the battalion maintained a demanding operational tempo while preparing its units for missions across the country and overseas.
"This battalion does not sit still,” said Watson. “Over the past two years, we executed 16 different annual training exercises, performing operations in field feeding, maintenance, transportation and supply, both across the country and overseas. All of these companies and their leaders have built deep capacity in their capabilities and forged generational readiness in their junior leaders through each and every training exercise."
Watson thanked senior leaders for their trust while commending the Soldiers of the 1792nd CSSB for their professionalism and dedication.
"Under my command, I was entrusted with the sons and daughters of this Commonwealth — a sacred responsibility I never took lightly," she said. "It's been truly inspiring to witness the professionalism, enthusiasm and pride the Warhorse Battalion displays in everything they do. The talent in this battalion is unmatched."
Watson also recognized the demands placed on Citizen-Soldiers and the importance of family support in balancing military and civilian responsibilities.
"As I embarked on this command, I established a resiliency contract with my family,” Watson said. “We detailed a clear plan to synchronize the heavy demands of training and time away so that I could be the best version of myself for this battalion and for my family.”
Following Watson, Moore spoke to the audience and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the battalion and build on the foundation established by Watson.
"It is a true privilege to take command of a battalion with such a proud history and a proven track record of operational excellence," Moore said. "Lt. Col. Watson built a phenomenal team, and I am deeply honored to step into this role and lead these Soldiers forward."
Looking ahead, Moore emphasized his commitment to the battalion's Soldiers, families and logistics mission.
"Our mission remains clear,” Moore said. “We must continue building resilient leaders and maintaining peak operational readiness, so we are prepared the moment our state or nation calls."
"To the Soldiers and families of the Warhorse Battalion,” Moore continued, “I pledge my full support to you. I look forward to working alongside each of you as we build upon this legacy of service and tackle our next mission together."
