Major General Logan Feland of the U.S. Marines owes roots to Kentucky State Guard
September 13, 2019 — While still attending college in 1885, Feland joined the military as a Private in Company D, (Latham Light Guards), 3rd Infantry Regiment, Kentucky State Guard in Hopkinsville. His brother, John, was the company’s First Lieutenant. While serving in Company D, Feland continually earned higher rank, though another officer peer, Jouett Henry, would eventually command the company... MORE

Never too late to honor the fallen
July 13, 2019 — U.S. Marine Pvt. Carl Strong died March 14, 1945 in the Battle of Iwo Jima fighting for his country. On July 13, 2019, some 74 years after giving his life, Strong received full military honors surrounded by relatives, friends and fellow Marines during a memorial service held in Jackson, Ky. Kentucky National Guard Chaplain (Capt.) Tyler Shields of the 103rd Chemical Battalion had the privilege to preside over the service. “This memorial was significant because it shows that it’s never too late to do the right thing. It hits at the very core of our values; that we will never leave a fallen comrade even if 74 years have passed. Although he was forgotten for too many years, he wasn’t forgotten forever. Now, his service and sacrifice will always be remembered and he can finally rest in peace as an American hero.”... MORE

Kentucky Guard Soldier posts highest ACFT score yet.
June 26, 2019 — The U.S. Army is transitioning to a new physical fitness test, the Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT), to better prepare Soldiers in readiness and lethality. To date, no Soldier yet has achieved a perfect score. On June 18, Spc. Ryan Sowder from the 2112th Transportation Company out of Burlington, Kentucky scored 597 out of a possible 600 points. Another generation of service
January 28, 2019 — Every month the Kentucky National Guard hosts a patching ceremony welcoming the newest Soldiers to the team. Honoring our Legacy
January 23, 2019 — In 1962, Maj. Gen. Arthur Lloyd, Kentucky’s Adjutant General, announced Frankfort’s National Guard Center be named after Col. Daniel Boone of the Kentucky Militia. Boone was a defender of Kentucky’s frontier, serving in Virginia’s Kentucky County Militia in 1777. Boone was not only one of the earliest explorers of Kentucky and guided settlers into the area, he founded Fort Boonesborough, protected it during the siege in 1777, and fought the Shawnee again at the Battle of Blue Licks; which was the last battle of the Revolutionary War. Best Warrior Competition Highlights Kentucky Guard's Finest Soldiers
October 28, 2018 — Kentucky Guardsmen proved why they were deemed worthy to represent their respected brigades as they competed in the very challenging Best Warrior Competition (BWC) at the Wendell H. Ford Regional Training Center in Greenville, Ky., Oct. 25-29 to determine who would be the 2018 Soldiers of the Year... MORE

This year’s competitors did over 20 miles of running and marching in full combat uniforms, completed written exams and an essay, demonstrated nearly every Army Warrior Task and endured rain and freezing temperatures to complete the 3-day competition. 1-149th conducts Patching Ceremony with Virginia Army National Guard unit
September 15, 2017 — The 1-149 will become the third Infantry maneuver Battalion for the Brigade. The 116th IBCT Soldiers are part of the 29th Infantry Division, and wear the “blue and gray” patch.
