Kentucky Guard first Dept. of the Army agency to receive ACFT equipment

— The U.S. Army’s new Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) goes into effect on Oct. 1, 2020. In order to meet that timeline, equipment for the ACFT has started shipping now and the Kentucky National Guard is the first of all three Army components (active, guard, reserve) to receive the initial fielding. "I'm appreciative of the Kentucky Guard being the first Army organization to receive this equipment as we go into the ACFT transition," said Brig. Gen. Hal Lamberton, Kentucky's adjutant general. Never too late to honor the fallen

— U.S. Marine Pvt. Carl Strong died March 14, 1945 in the Battle of Iwo Jima fighting for his country. On July 13, 2019, some 74 years after giving his life, Strong received full military honors surrounded by relatives, friends and fellow Marines during a memorial service held in Jackson, Ky. Kentucky National Guard Chaplain (Capt.) Tyler Shields of the 103rd Chemical Battalion had the privilege to preside over the service. “This memorial was significant because it shows that it’s never too late to do the right thing. It hits at the very core of our values; that we will never leave a fallen comrade even if 74 years have passed. Although he was forgotten for too many years, he wasn’t forgotten forever. — In 1962, Maj. Gen. Arthur Lloyd, Kentucky’s Adjutant General, announced Frankfort’s National Guard Center be named after Col. Daniel Boone of the Kentucky Militia. Boone was a defender of Kentucky’s frontier, serving in Virginia’s Kentucky County Militia in 1777. Boone was not only one of the earliest explorers of Kentucky and guided settlers into the area, he founded Fort Boonesborough, protected it during the siege in 1777, and fought the Shawnee again at the Battle of Blue Licks; which was the last battle of the Revolutionary War.
